Art McLarney

Art McLarney starred in basketball and baseball for the Cougars from 1930-32 and was WSU's first player to reach the major leagues. On the diamond McLarney played shortstop for WSC and signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Giants after his senior season. That year he reached the major leagues, playing nine games with the Giants. On the basketball court he was an All-Pacific Coast choice in 1930 and two-time All-Northern Division selection. McLarney was a student leader as well as an outstanding athlete and served as WSC’s Student Body President in 1932. Following his playing career McLarney was a successful high school and collegiate basketball and baseball coach.
