Biography
WASHINGTON STATE CAREER
JUNIOR (2022-23) – Started all 34 games for WSU in his lone season on the Palouse … led the team in total minutes played (1,146) and averaged a team-high 33.7 minutes per game … finished third on the team with 10.4 points per game, scoring in double figures 21 times … averaged 3.9 rebounds per game, while dishing out a team-best 2.8 assists per game … finished the year fourth in the Pac-12 from 3-point range, shooting .426 from downtown with 78 made triples … fifteen games without a turnover, while carrying a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio through the season … in season opener against Texas St, dished out 12 assists, most by a Coug since 2009, and most assists in a season-opener since assists became an official stat prior to the 1985-86 season) … scored a season high 20 points against Arizona State Jan. 28, burying a season-high six 3-pointers.
PRIOR TO WSU
SOPHOMORE (2021-22 AT TENNESSEE) - After transferring to Tennessee, Powell saw action in 30 games for the Volunteers including playing in his first postseason contest against Longwood in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Early on Powell showed off his shooting prowess as he became the ninth player in Tennessee history to hit at least five 3-pointers (5-for-5) without a miss, en route to notching a season-high 15 points against Presbyterian. On the year he averaged 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds in 14.1 minutes per game while shooting .392 from the field, .381 from 3-point range, and .733 from the free-throw line.
FRESHMAN (2020-21 AT AUBURN) - A top-100 prospect out of high school, Powell played 10 games with seven starts as a true freshman at Auburn before a season-ending injury cut his inaugural campaign short. He was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 14, 2020, after totaling 52 points in wins over South Alabama and Memphis. The contest against South Alabama marked his first collegiate start in which he drilled seven 3-pointers and notched 26 points in the win. In all, Powell averaged 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 0.9 steals per game while shooting .429 from the field, .442 from 3-point range, and .765 at the free-throw line on the year.
HIGH SCHOOL - Graduated from North Oldham High School, in Goshen, Kentucky...Rated as a four-star and national top-100 prospect (No. 76) by ESPN, which also tabbed him as the top prospect in the state of Kentucky...Was averaging 22.2 points and 8.5 rebounds and was a leading Mr. Basketball candidate as a senior in 2019-20 before undergoing season-ending sports-hernia surgery...despite his abbreviated senior season, he earned second-team All-State honors from the Louisville Courier Journal...was named MVP of the King of the 2019 Bluegrass Holiday Classic after playing every single minute during the tournament and leading the Mustangs to a runner-up finish.
