Brycen Campbell completed his second season as the Cougars’ Director of Operations.
Campbell helped the 2023 Cougars post a 29-23 record, the most wins since 2015, including series wins at No. 15 Oregon State, over No. 12 UCLA, Arizona, at California, WCC champion Santa Clara and claimed the season series over Gonzaga, 2-1. Following the series win at No. 15 OSU to open conference play, WSU appeared at No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top-25, the Cougars first national ranking since 2010. WSU put up impressive numbers offensively in all three phases, hitting the tenth-most home runs in program history (54), recording the most stolen bases since 2015 (70), was hit by the pitch the third-most in program history (92), fielded at a .974 clip for the fourth-best fielding percentage in program history and the pitching staff set the strikeout record for the second straight season (518).
Following the season, five Cougars received All-Pac-12 recognition led by All-West Region designated hitter Jacob McKeon who was also named an Academic All-American and the Pac-12 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Along with McKeon, transfer first baseman Sam Brown, transfer outfielder Jonah Advincula, infielder Elijah Hainline and pitcher Dakota Hawkins each earned all-league recognition. Three Cougars earned Academic All-District accolades and WSU posted a program-record 3.21 team GPA during the fall semester. In the community, for the second-straight year WSU partnered with WSU ROAR, a two-year postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to host a Lentil Cookoff at Bailey-Brayton Field.
In 2022, WSU posted their third straight winning season and closed the year with series wins in four of the final five weekends, clinching series at No. 10 Oregon, USC, Utah Valley and wrapped up the season with the first sweep over Arizona State in program history. The Cougars posted a pair of road series wins over Top-10 teams for the first time in program history after taking two of three at ninth-ranked Arizona and No. 10 Oregon, notching road series wins in Tucson and Eugene for the first time since 2012. Following the season, three players earned All-Pac-12 Conference honors highlighted by designated hitter Jacob McKeon who earned first-team honors and was later named to the ABCA All-West Region Second Team.
WSU continued to put up impressive numbers in the community and in the classroom, placing nine on the Pac-12 Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll and posted 3.14 team GPA in the fall and spring semesters, the highest spring semester team GPA in program history. In the community, WSU partnered with WSU ROAR, a two-year postsecondary education program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to host a Lentil Cookoff at Bailey-Brayton Field.
Campbell joined WSU after working the previous two seasons at Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Campbell owns six years of coaching experience, has helped develop 10 players into draft picks, coached three All-Americans, helped 17 junior college players earned Division I scholarships. Last season, Campbell helped Point Loma produce four All-Region selections and one All-American.
Prior to Point Loma, Campbell worked two seasons (2018-19) as an assistant coach and strength & conditioning coach at Riverside City College (Calif.) and the previous two seasons (2016-17) as a student assistant coach under coach Green at New Mexico State.
Campbell, a native of Farmington, N.M., played collegiately as an outfielder at Eastern Arizona (2013-14) before transferring to NMSU where he played in 2015 and worked as a student assistant 2016-17. Campbell and his wife, Morgan, have two daughters, Isla and Elle.
