Cougars Top Fresno State, Drop To No. 15 UCLA

LOS ANGELES - The Washington State women's swim team topped Fresno State
145-116, but dropped 166-87 to No. 15 UCLA at UCLA's Men's Gym Pool - the
Cougars' third double dual meet of the year and third time to meet first
time opponents this season.
The Cougars opened up competition with a second place finish in the
200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 48.39 seconds. The team of
Hohmann, Eldridge, Ewan, and Keller posted WSU's second fastest time this
season in the event.
Senior Katie Keller led the way in individual events with second place
finishes in the 50 freestyle (24.41) and 100 freestyle (52.68). The
Seattle, Wash. native also placed third in the 200 freestyle with a 1:55.77.
Junior Erin Eldridge finished second in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke
events. The Kirkland, Wash. native posted a 1:05.40 in the 100 and a
2:19.80 in the 200.
Australian natives Anna Hohmann and Gretchen Chambers turned in season best
times at the meet. Hohmann, a senior from Victoria, Australia, finished
second in the 100 backstroke with a 58.71. Chambers, a junior from
Adelaide, Australia, finished third in the 1000 freestyle with a 10:26.18.
The Cougars are now 4-5 this season and will compete against the University
of Nevada Jan. 30 at Reno, Nev.
