Cougars Keep Win Streak Intact Against Beavers

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State women's swim team captured ten of 14
events against Oregon State to propel them to a 158-104 victory at the
Osborn Aquatic Center.
Juniors Gretchen Chambers (Adelaide, Australia) and Kelley Miedema (Cape
Town, South Africa) led the Cougars with two first place finishes a piece.
Chambers captured the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17 minutes, 30.27
seconds and the 500 freestyle with a 5:07.93. Miedema took wins in the 200
backstroke with a 2:06.99 and 200 IM with a 2:09.51.
In the 100 breaststroke, junior Erin Eldridge clocked in an NCAA
consideration time of 1:03.53. This is a season best time for the
Kirkland, Wash. native, who is currently ranked No. 25 in the nation in the
event.
Freshman Katie Leidel picked up her first collegiate win with a 2:24.56
performance in the 200 breaststroke. This also marked a season best time
for the Round Rock, Texas native.
Overall, the Cougars eclipsed individual and team season bests throughout
the dual meet. In both the 200-medley relay (1:45.92) and 200 freestyle
relay (1:36.99), WSU clocked in its fastest times this season in each event.
The win over the Beavers keeps the Cougars' longest win streak against an
opponent intact at 17. The Cougars (5-6) will take on Oregon State once
again at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
