Cougs Earn 9-Seed in WCC Tournament, Will Play Seattle U Thursday
March 01, 2026 | Women's Basketball
PULLMAN, Wash. (March 1, 2026) – Washington State women's basketball will be the 9-seed in the 2026 Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship and is set to tip-off the tournament against the 12-seeded Seattle U on Thursday, March 5 at noon.
HOW THE TIEBREAKER SHOOK OUT
Pacific, Saint Mary's and Washington State tied for eighth place in the standings with a 6-12 league record. Conference tiebreaker policies involving three or more teams place the teams in a pod comparing head-to-head results. The team with the best record, as determined by winning percentage even if unequal games in the conference's unbalanced schedule, is seeded the highest and the team with the worst record is seeded the lowest. In the pod, Pacific and Washington State are both 2-1 (.667) against the others, while Saint Mary's is 1-3 (.250). Saint Mary's will be the No. 10 seed. With Pacific and Washington State owning the same record in the pod, tiebreaker policies move to head-to-head results. The Tigers defeated the Cougars, 65-53 in their lone match up during the regular season and Pacific secured the No. 8 seed and Washington State the No. 9 seed.
