Cougars Fall Short, 75-86, to Dons in WCC Quarterfinal

LAS VEGAS (Hayden Wysup) – Washington State lost to San Francisco, 75-86, Sunday night in the quarterfinals of the Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Basketball Championship. 
 
Player Performances: Ethan Price led the team in scoring with 26 points, two shy of his career high, and six rebounds. LeJuan Watts added 20 points and three assists. Nate Calmese recorded his first career double-double with 16 points and career-high 11 assists. 
 
Turning Point: With the Cougars trailing by only two points early in the second half, the Dons went on a 14-5 run to extend their lead to 52-41. The Cougars fought back and cut the lead to one, but SF countered with another run. This time the Dons went on a 12-3 run to go back up 12 and hold off another Wazzu comeback. 
 
Controlling the Paint: San Francisco found an advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Cougars 49-25 and secured a 21-5 scoring advantage on second-chance points. 
 
Looking Ahead: Head Coach David Riley led the Cougs to 19-14 record, the second-most wins by a first-year head coach in program history. The Cougars will monitor conference championships closely with the possibility of earning a bid to the National Invitation Tournament or the inaugural College Basketball Crown.
