Cougars Complete Season Sweep Over San Francisco, 67-59

PULLMAN, Wash. (February 20, 2025) – Washington State women's basketball defeated San Francisco 67-59 Thursday night in Beasley Coliseum.

The Cougars (17-12, 12-6 WCC) got off to a slow start offensively, but scored 41 points in the second half while shooting 53 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.

Tara Wallack led the game in scoring with 20 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Eleonora Villa had 13 points, and Charlotte Abraham added 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.

The Cougars fell to an early deficit against the Dons. Only shooting 35 percent from the field, Wazzu couldn't keep up with San Francisco's offense fueled by Luana Leite, who scored 10 first-quarter points to help put the Dons ahead 18-13.

As the Cougars looked to cut into the Dons lead, they did so by tightening up on the defensive end. In the second quarter, the Cougars held San Francisco to just two field goals and forced eight turnovers. Near the end of the half, Mendes made a jump shot to spark a 7-1 Wazzu run to close out the half and cut the Dons lead to just one.

Coming out of halftime trailing 27-26, the Cougars found their shot on offense and quickly cut into the Dons lead. Wallack finished the third quarter with 10 points and helped orchestrate an 18-5 Wazzu run to give the Cougs control of the lead.

In the early going of the final quarter, San Francisco cut the Wazzu lead to just four, but the Cougars countered with 10 unanswered to extend a lead they controlled until the final buzzer.
