PULLMAN, Wash. (January 4, 2025) – Washington State women's basketball had a huge bounce-back win Saturday afternoon, defeating Oregon State 66-52.
The Cougars (9-7, 4-1 WCC) jumped out to an early lead and held it throughout the rest of the game. Wazzu dominated from beyond the arc, nailing nine three pointers to the Beavers' two.
Eleonora Villa led the game in scoring with 19 points on an efficient 50 percent shooting from the field.
Tara Wallack had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Astera Tuhina and
Alex Covill each added 11 points.
Washington State dominated from the opening tip, splashing three triples in the early going to establish the lead. As the quarter went on, Wazzu kept their foot on the gas.
Eleonora Villa caught fire late in the first quarter and scored eight points to help fuel a 17-4 Cougar run to close out the quarter.
As the first half neared its closure, the Beavers failed to find their shot to keep up with the Wazzu offense. The Cougars held the Oregon State offense to just 6-of-29 shooting from the field and 1-of-10 shooting from three, and forced eight turnovers to enter halftime with a 34-19 lead.
Coming out of half, the Beavers scored five unanswered while looking to mount a comeback. Washington state responded with six unanswered of their own, though, and the teams exchanged blows throughout the third quarter.
With the Beavers finding their shot in the fourth quarter, Washington State's
