COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 5, 2025) – Washington State pitcher Nick Lewis was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Lewis picked up both awards after recording a career-high eight strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs and no walks in seven innings to earn the win in WSU's series-clinching victory Sunday over Air Force. The redshirt-freshman lefthander opened the game with four scoreless frames before the Falcons got on the scoreboard with a two-run homer in the fifth after WSU had built a 9-0 lead. Lewis closed his day with scoreless sixth and seventh innings, and the Cougar bullpen sealed up the win with two scoreless innings. WSU won Friday's opener to take two of three from the Falcons.

Lewis is tied for second on the team and tied for eight in the Mountain West with four wins, and second on the team and sixth in the league with 63 innings.

This is the fourth and fifth weekly honor for WSU this season after freshman second baseman Ollie Obenour was named the conference freshman of the week March 10, outfielder Logan Johnstone was named the player of the week following the San Diego State sweep and third baseman Kyler Northrop was named the freshman of the week April 7 after the series win over San Jose State.
