PULLMAN, Wash. (March 5, 2024) – Washington State Swimming sophomores Dori Hathazi and Emily Lundgren are headed back to the NCAA Championships.

The 2024 NCAA Championships are set for March 20-23 at Jack Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.

The sophomore duo are the first set of Cougar teammates to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the back-to-back seasons in program history and give WSU an NCAA Championship qualifier in the last five seasons (2020 NCAA's were cancelled) with seven swimmers qualifying over that stretch.

"WSU continues to rewrite school history and set the bar high as Dori and Emily are going back to NCAA for the second year in a row," Head Coach Matt Leach said. "Our program continues to grow and develop great people, and studiously minded athletes who want to continue to develop in our program. We're excited for Dori and Emily to be announced and looking forward to seeing what happens at NCAA's in a few weeks! Go Cougs!"

Lundgren qualified to swim the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast while Hathazi will compete in the 200 fly. Last season, the same two swimmers became the first Cougar freshmen to qualify for the NCAA Championships in program history. Previous Cougar swimmers to qualify for the NCAA Championships multiple times were Erin Eldridge (1998-2000), Erin McCleave (2006-07), Michael Ahlin (2009-10) and Chloe Larson (2021-22).

This past weekend at the Pac-12 Championships, Lundgren broke three school records including the 200 IM (1:58.94), 100 breast (59.45) and 200 breast (2:07.44) while the Chula Vista, Calif. native claimed second in the Pac-12 in the 100 breast and third in the 200 breast. During the season, Lundgren was second on the team with seven individual wins while setting WSU's record 100 breast time and a Gibb Pool record in the same event.

For Hathazi, the Hungary native broke her own 200 fly record in the Pac-12 Championships Saturday morning prelims with a 1:55.55, besting her previous record she set back in November, and followed up with an even better swim in the evening final, posting a 1:54.87 to finish eighth in the Pac-12. Hathazi led the team with eight individual wins while setting a WSU record in the 200 fly, a Gibb Pool record in the 100 fly and was relay teammates with Lundgren on the record-setting 400 medley relay team.
