FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (March 1, 2024) – Washington State sophomore
Emily Lundgren broke her own school record twice while placing second in the 100 breast and sophomore
Anna Rauchholz broke the school record in the 100 back during an electric day three of the 2024 Pac-12 Conference Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center Friday.
Â
"What a great night for the Cougs! We swam well this morning which put us in a position to swim even better tonight and we came out strong tonight in the 400 IM with
Ariel Wang and
Jewel Springer moving up," head coach
Matt Leach said. "We followed up
Emily Lundgren's record and
Alexandra Vartiainen's amazing swims with a strong contingent of backstrokers with
Makayla Poloni going lifetime best time just missing out on the Top-10 and then our three backstrokers in the B final really coming on strong. So excited for
Anna Rauchholz breaking the school record in the 100 back! That's back-to-back nights with schools records and we are looking for more tomorrow! Go Cougs!"
Â
For the second consecutive day, Lundgren notched a school record, breaking her own top mark in the 100 breast after posting a 1:00.02 in the morning prelims, breaking the record of 1:00.55. Lundgren also set the 200 IM record Thursday night.
Â
In the evening session, freshman
Ariel Wang posted a WSU Top-10 time in the 400 IM, recording a 4:16.88 for the sixth-fastest time in program history and also good for an NCAA "B" time.
Â
In the 100 breast even final, Lundgren made history again, breaking her own school record for the second time during the meet with a 59.45, good for an NCAA "B' time and second place in the Pac-12. Lundgren placed third in the 200 breast at last year's Pac-12 Championships. More history was made in the next event as Rauchholz posted a 53.39 in the 100 back, setting the school record, recording an NCAA "B" cut and winning the Pac-12 "B" final. Also in the "B" final, senior
Kiana Swain pushed her name up the record book with a 54.22, the fourth-fastest 100 back time in program history.
Â
The 400 medley relay team of Rauchholz, Lundgren,
Dori Hathazi and
Selena Duran Ortiz finished seventh in the final with a 3:36.32, just missing the school record.
Â
Through 15 events, the Cougars have tallied 306.5 points and sit in eighth place.
Â
Saturday will see the Pac-12 Championships conclude with morning prelim sessions in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly before the 1650 free in the afternoon and the evening final will feature the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free.
