WSU Soccer Beats Oregon State 1-0 at Home

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State Cougar soccer team (7-5-6) defeated Oregon State, 1-0, Wednesday night at Lower Soccer Field on the WSU campus. The Cougars scored in the 36th minute when senior Julianna Duckett scored the game-winning goal, keeping Wazzu unbeaten at home this fall.

After a slow start in the first 10 minutes, the Cougars found a rhythm, connecting passes through the midfield and mixing up the speed and point of attack into the Beavers' defensive area. Duckett's scored her second goal at WSU after involving herself in the buildup to the play through the midfield. The senior transfer delivered a pass to Rajanah Reed, who had a shot on target that Oregon State saved. The rebounded shot fell to Duckett who finished the second chance and gave her third college goal.

Returning from halftime, Washington State continued to apply pressure, while the Beavers looked to play direct. Oregon State nearly found the equalizer in the 61st minute, serving a corner kick into the Cougars' penalty area. The cross fell into the 6-yard box and deflected toward the WSU goal where Lindsey Turner chested the shot off of the goal line to preserve the lead.

WSU found its footing once more, delivering dangerous attacks, including six second-half corner kicks into the Oregon State area. Lindsey Turner nearly got on the end of a long 30-yard cross to the far post from Naomi Clark, but the shot zipped just out of reach and over the endline.

In the 81st minute, freshman leading goalscorer Kendall Campbell took a strike from a tight angle, and forced a goal-line save from the Oregon State defense at the near post. WSU senior goalkeeper Nadia Cooper was called upon to make four saves in the match, picking up her seventh cleansheet of the year.

Cooper moved into a third place tie in WSU goalkeeping history with her 21st career shutout and her 33rd career win (fourth in program history). All seven Cougar wins this year have been shutouts. Fellow senior Grayson Lynch played her 96th career game, second-most in program history and two games from tying the school record.

WSU concludes the regular season and honors its senior class Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. against Pacific.
