LOS ANGELES – The Washington State Cougar soccer team (4-4-4) tied Loyola Marymount, 1-1, Saturday night in Los Angeles. Cougar fifth-year senior
Lindsey Turner scored the match's opening goal in the 13th minute, her second of the season, before LMU drew level in the 35th minute.
The Cougars struck 13 minutes into the match when Turner put her foot on the end of a cross from sophomore
Megan Santa Cruz and scored the second-fastest WSU goal of the season. Santa Cruz ran onto a through ball from fellow sophomore
Reagan Kotschau, who picked up her team-best fourth assist. Santa Cruz cross was deflected, but Turner adjusted to get position in the 6-yard box and a touch on the ball for her second goal of the year.
Loyola Marymount equalized in the 35th minute when Kylie Dobbs found enough space at the top of the area to deliver a perfect strike into the lower right corner, past a fully-extended
Nadia Cooper. The goal forced the match to open up further, as the Cougars went back on the offensive with a tough shot on frame from transfer senior
Raniyah Burton.
WSU and LMU entered the break even, returning from the locker room with senior
Rajanah Reed forcing an early shot on target to begin the second half. The majority of possession came in the 18-yard boxes, as the Cougs and Lions traded offensive spurts from a foggy Sullivan Field on the LMU campus.
Senior goalkeeper
Nadia Cooper made six saves in the match, including four second-half saves, surpassing 200 career saves on the night. The Houston, Texas native is sixth in Cougar history with 203 total saves in four seasons.
WSU earned its first road point of the WCC season, and tied for the fourth time this season when entering halftime in a tied match. The Cougars had fewer second-half shots than LMU, but managed more attempts on target, forcing the Lions into five saves in the second stanza.
Washington State returns to the Palouse to host a pair of WCC matches against Saint Mary's, Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 12 vs Portland. Both matches will stream live on ESPN+ with Trevor Williams on the call.
