PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State men's and women's indoor track and field teams get set to travel this weekend to compete in a pair of indoor meets in the Pacific Northwest as the Cougars open the weekend at the two-day UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor on Friday, while a separate group competes in Saturday's one-day Inland NW Invitational hosted by Whitworth at The Podium.

Washington State combined for seven wins over two days last week at the second annual Idaho Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open at the Kibbie Dome. Freshman continued the early success for first and second year student-athletes as
Zenah Cheptoo had a convincing win in her collegiate running debut, winning the women's 3,000-meter run with a freshman record 9:32.41.
Having finished runner-up in his collegiate debut at the Spokane Sports Showcase, AJ McGloflin improved his season-best mark to 2.08m/ 6' 9.75" in the men's high jump to capture the event win at last week's McCluskey Memorial.
Eli Lawrence won his third-consecutive triple jump to begin his collegiate career, finishing with a lifetime-best 15.46m/ 50' 8.75" in his final attempt during Saturday's men's triple jump final.
In the women's shot put,
Nana Gyedu worked her way up to a season-best mark of 14.65m/ 48' 0.75 to capture her first win of the 2023-24 season. The women's distance medley relay team began its push for a nationals appearance with a solid first outing, winning the McCluskey Memorial Open with the sixth-best time in Division I this season at 11:44.23.
Sophomore native of Boise, Idaho,
Mason Lawyer placed first in both prelims and finals of the men's 60-meter dash to cap the weekend on the track for the Cougs, his second-consecutive first-place finish in the men's 60m.

Washington State will have another split weekend next week as the Cougars will keep one group of athletes closer to home to compete in the Riverfront Invite & Multis back at The Podium in Spokane, while another group of athletes heads south to take on the competition at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.
