PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State improved to 2-0 with a 36-16 win over Texas Tech at Gesa Field Saturday evening. Check out the postgame notes from the win.
 
TEAM NOTES
•      WSU starts the season 2-0 for the third straight season under head coach Jake Dickert
•      WSU rushed for 301 yards, the most since rushing for 306 at Stanford in 2022
•      WSU posted back-to-back games with 200-yards rushing for the first time since 2021 (223 vs. Arizona, 209 at Washington)
•      WSU rushed for four touchdowns, the most since 2018 against Eastern Washington
•      WSU posted its first win over Texas Tech in program history; had last previous two meetings (1963, 1964)
•      WSU's four takeaways (2 INT, 2 FUM) are the most since 2022 (4 INT, at Arizona)
 
PLAYER NOTES
•      Chris Barnes made his first career start, started at running back
•      John Mateer carried 21 times for 197 yards and one touchdown, threw for 115 yards and one touchdown
•      Mateer's 197 rush yards were a WSU single-game record by a quarterback and was the first 100-yard game by a Cougar quarterback since Timm Rosenbach against Oregon in 1987 (105), the eighth 100-yard rushing game by a Cougar quarterback in program history
•      Wayshawn Parker rushed for a touchdown, the first Cougar true freshman with touchdowns in back-to-back games since Max Borghi in 2018 (Arizona, at Colorado)
•      Djouvensky Schlenbaker rushed for a touchdown in his second straight game, rushed for two scores
•      Kyle Williams only catch was a 21-yard touchdown, his 39th consecutive game with a catch, owns a catch in all 39 career games played (1st 25 at UNLV (2020-22), 18th career TD catch, 9th TD rec at WSU
•      Andre Dollar recorded his first career multiple-catch game, finished with two catches for 13 yards
•      Ethan O'Connor picked his first career pass, finished with three tackles, a pass breakup, also picked off a 2-point conversion
•      Buddah Al-Uqdah recorded his first career forced fumble, made three tackles including one for los
•      Stephen Hall made a career-high 11 tackles including one for loss
•      Tyson Durant matched a career-high with 8 tackles, broke up two passes and recovered a fumble
•      Kapena Gushiken picked off his first pass of the season, second of his career
•      Raam Stevenson recorded his first career full sack
•      Dean Janikowski tallied seven points to push his career point total to 246, 5th-most in WSU history
•      Janikowski connected from 25 yards for his first made FG of the season and 36th of his career, 6th-most in WSU history
•      Janikowski made four extra points to push his career PAT total to 138, 3rd-most in WSU history
