Five Cougars Named CSC Academic All-District

Five Washington State Baseball student-athletes were named CSC Academic All-District.

PULLMAN, Wash. (June 6, 2024) – Five Washington State Baseball student-athletes were named CSC Academic All-District, the College Sports Communicators announced this week.
 
Senior pitchers Andrew Baughn, Chase Grillo and Grant Taylor along with sophomore outfielder Max Hartman and senior infielder Crew Parke each earned the recognition while Taylor will be up for Academic All-America honors. The five selections after the most Academic All-District selections in program history.
 
The 2023-24 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced July 2. 
 
Baughn led the team with 25 appearances out of the bullpen and recorded 13 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. The Las Vegas native was recently named to the President's Honor Roll after posting a 3.75 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance.
 
Grillo led the team with four saves and recorded 30 strikeouts in 17.1 innings over a 18 appearances. The Kennewick, Wash. was named to the All-District Team and Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll last season, graduated with a social sciences degree this spring and finished his career tied for fourth in WSU history with 13 career saves.
 
Taylor had a career year in 2024, earning All-Pac-12 Conference honors after finishing the regular season second in the Pac-12 with 99 strikeouts, third with 83.1 innings, fourth with a 1.19 WHIP and eighth with a 4.21 ERA. The senior from Murrieta, Calif. recorded five wins, struck out 10-plus hitters three times highlighted by a WSU-record 17-strikeout performance in his one-hit shutout at Washington, earning National Pitcher of the Week accolades after the outing. In conference play, Taylor led the league with 76 strikeouts and was third with 60.1 innings. Taylor earned wins at Utah Tech, Utah, at Washington, against USC and was named to the Round Rock Classic All-Tournament Team after beating No. 24 Kentucky. Taylor's 99 strikeouts were seventh-most in WSU single-season history and finished his career with 252 strikeouts, third-most in WSU history. Taylor is a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection and finished his career third in WSU history with 252 career strikeouts.
 
Hartman earns his first career accolade after hitting .286 with 32 runs scored, 11 doubles, three home runs and team-highs of 41 RBI and 10 stolen bases. The St. Albert, Albert native owns a 3.56 cumulative GPA and was named to the President's Honor Roll while majoring in civil engineering.
 
Parke started all 53 games in his only season with the Cougars after transferring from Abilene Christian. The Mesa, Ariz. native scored 30 runs, tallied six doubles and drove in 24 runs. Parke produced a 3.77 GPA while majoring in humanities.
