COLFAX, Wash. — Brian Barsaiya broke a Cougar Classic meet record with a time of 23:41.3 to win the men's 8k while
Neema Kimtai (20:33.8),
Caroline Jerotich (20:52.1), and
Cristina Molteni (21:08.8) won the women's 6k as Washington State men's and women's cross country teams hosted the second home meet of the fall Friday evening at Colfax Golf Club.
Kimtai finished with an average mile time of 5:30.8 to clock a meet record in the women's 6k while her teammate, Jerotich, finished at an average mile of 5:35.7 on a hot, late-summer evening in Colfax. Molteni, in her first season of cross country wearing crimson and gray, narrowly missed breaking the 21-minute mark with an average mile of 5:40.1 on the afternoon.
On the men's side, four total Cougs cracked the top five with
Micah Galeana (24:24.3) and
Kyle Ortega-Gammill (24:27.5) coming away from Friday's meet with fourth and fith-place finishes, respectively.
Kelvin Limo, coming off of a 6k meet record (17:24.3) in the season-opening WSU Alumni Open finished runner-up behind Barsaiya with a time of 23:50.5.
The two cross country teams will see a two-week break from its schedule before gearing up for the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Fri., Sept. 29. Cougs not on the trip to South Bend will prep for the Whitman Invitational on Sat., Sept. 30, in Walla Walla, Wash.
