WSU Match Notes:
>> 11th-ranked Washington State picked up its
second-consecutive top-25 win Wednesday night in a
3-1 win at 18th-ranked Baylor. The two wins are the first back-to-back wins over the AVCA Top-25 for the Cougs since winning back-to-back top-25 matchups (vs No. 24 Colorado, vs. No. 6 Washington) to open Pac-12 play in 2021.
>> A win on Friday at Texas would be the
first three-match winning streak over the
AVCA Top-25 for the Cougs
since 2018. WSU defeated No. 25 Utah, No. 23 Colorado, and No. 21 Arizona, back in 2018 — a Cougar team that finished the season with a run to the NCAA Sweet 16.
>> Washington State's last
back-to-back road top-25 wins fell early on in the 2018 season as it defeated 17th-ranked Northern Iowa in two consecutive road contests on the opening weekend of the 2018 season in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
>> Washington State will also have a shot at a second-consecutive AVCA Top-10 win, having taken out eighth-ranked BYU last Friday night in Bohler Gym. Washington State's
last back-to-back top-10 wins came during a stretch that included three straight wins over No. 4 Washington in four sets, No. 9 UCLA in five sets, and No. 9 Stanford in five sets, to open the 2016 Pac-12 schedule.
>> A ninth consecutive victory for the Cougs would be the longest winning streak since a stretch of 11 consecutive wins back in the first half of the 2019 season.
>> With a
.328 hitting percentage, Washington State volleyball ranks
16th in the NCAA and
first in the Pac-12 as a team.
>> The
2022 Cougars finished the season ranked
16th in the NCAA at .280 as a team, a best final ranking in team attack percentage under coach Greeny and the second-highest single-season attack percentage in WSU history.
>> WSU's .506 attack percentage vs. Tulsa was the highest of any Pac-12 team over an opponent so far this season and the ninth-highest in the nation this season.
>> WSU has tied the program record for aces in a 3-set match in each of the past two seasons. The Cougars dropped in 14 aces vs. FDU at the 2022 Fairfield Invitational and had 14 aces in its 2023 home opener against Northwestern State.
>> Setter
Argentina Ung ranks 16th in the NCAA and third in the Pac-12 with 10.97 assists/set, while
Magda Jehlářová is first in the Pac-12 and 16th in the NCAA with a .467 hitting percentage so far this season.
>>
Jehlářová is the Washington State all-time leader and seventh in Pac-12 history in career hitting percentage at .378. She is the Pac-12's active leader and Washington State's all-time leader with 640 career blocks.
>>
Iman Isanovic had a team-leading
16 kills with a
.324 hitting percentage in Wednesday's win at Baylor. With 122 kills and only 23 errors, Isanovic is hitting a .381 clip on the season, by far the most efficient in her five-year career.
>>
Isanovic also eclipsed the 1,500 career kills mark on Wednesday night as she remains the Pac-12's active leader with 1,514 for her career.
>>
Julia Norville and
Karly Basham finished Wednesday's win at Baylor tied for the team lead with 15 digs apiece while also collecting a perfect 28-of-28 serves that went their direction on the Cougars' back row.
WASHINGTON STATE IN THE POLLS
>> Washington State jumped two more spots to No. 11 in the fourth AVCA Division I Top-25 Coaches' Poll of the season, the highest national ranking for the Cougars since reaching No. 10 in 2016.
>> Washington State was picked to finish second in the Preseason Pac-12 Conference Coaches' Poll, tying the highest ranking all-time for WSU in the annual preseason poll — WSU was also picked to finish runner-up in 1996.
