Three Record Double-Doubles in 111-50 Win over Texas A&M-Commerce

PULLMAN, Wash. (November 29, 2023) – Washington State women's basketball came out firing in the team's return to Pullman, jumping all over Texas A&M-Commerce in a 111-50 win Wednesday night.

The Cougars move to 8-1 on the year as the team saw three record double-doubles in a game for just the second time in program history.

Bella Murekatete, Charlisse Leger-Walker and Astera Tuhina each tallied double-doubles to achieve something that had only been done once before in program history, on Feb. 22, 1997, as Doreen Evans, Jade Hyett and Yvonne Kunze each recorded double-doubles at Cal.

WSU's 111 points ranks third-most in program history for points in a game, seven shy of the record of 118 set in the 1978-79 season against Alaska-Anchorage.

The Cougs did break a pair of single-game records, however, with a program-high 35 assists and 48 made field goals in Wednesday's victory.

Senior center Murekatete matched a career-high with 22 points on the night, and set a career-best with her 18 rebounds. She also added four assists, four steals and three blocks.

Senior guard Leger-Walker finished with a season-high 10 rebounds to go with 15 points and six assists.

Sophomore guard Tuhina had the first double-double of her career with 10 points and a career-high 13 assists.

Freshman guard Eleonora Villa scored a career-high 20 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Junior guard Tara Wallack tallied 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block.

Sophomore guard Kyra Gardner scored a career-high 11 points, and matched a career-best with four rebounds.

Freshman center Alex Covill recorded eight points, six rebounds, two blocks, and a career-best two steals, while freshman guard Jenna Villa scored 10 points and grabbed her first career steal.

The Cougs went 48-of-85 from the field to finish with a 56.5 shooting percentage while connecting on 48 percent of shots from deep and going 3-of-3 from the line. The team also surrendered only seven turnovers to their 35 assists.

WSU led 27-13 through one quarter thanks to nine early points from E. Villa before adding on in the second. Wallack's five points in the final minute of the first half would contribute to a 9-2 spurt that pushed the Cougar lead to 52-28 at the break. A 30-point frame in the third extended the WSU lead to 82-39 before eventually winning by a score of 111-50.
