Cougars Tie Ducks, 2-2, in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. – The Washington State women's soccer team (9-5-4, 2-4-4) tied the Oregon Ducks (0-15-3, 0-9-1), 2-2, Sunday afternoon from Papé Field. The Cougars drew their third straight match, as WSU sophomore Peyton Price scored her first career goal and assisted on Margie Detrizio's eighth goal of the season.

The Cougars conceded the early lead in the 4th minute when the Ducks earned their first corner kick of the match. Oregon cycled the set piece around to the top of the box and lofted a ball into the far post. WSU junior goalkeeper Nadia Cooper left her line to punch the ball clear, but Oregon's Ryann Reynolds got her head to the service first and finished the early goal.

Washington State responded right back, taking control of possession and the majority of opportunities for the remainder of the half. The Cougars' opportunity came in the 22nd minute when a WSU corner kick was only cleared as far as the top of the goal box. Price, making her first career start, lined up a shot on the half volley, striking the ball over traffic and into the underside of the crossbar for the equalizer. The goal was Price's first of her career, earning her the first points of her career, and drawing the game level midway through the first half.

Wazzu continued to attack, looking to come from behind and take control before the halftime whistle. Price proved crucial in the build up to the Cougars' second goal, playing a well-weighted through ball to an on-running Nat Lewis in the attacking third. Lewis took a touch before delivering a low cross to Detrizio near the penalty spot. The Arizona senior took a touch, creating a gap between two UO defenders, and placed the shot into the far post.

Detrizio's first-half leading goal marked her team-high eighth goal of the season and brought her career scoring total to 26 career goals. Detrizio moved into a tie for sixth in program history in career goals, and Washington State entered halftime with the 2-1 advantage.

To start the second half, WSU looked in control of the flow of the game, before conceding in the 50th minute. The Ducks' second goal also came from a corner kick, delivered into the box and kept in the area from an Oregon header. The ball fell to Ajanae Respass, who poked the chance home from the left post to even the match.

With the match tied and 40 minutes to play, the Cougars pressed forward, putting up 16 second-half shots to Oregon's three. The Cougars finished with 22 total shots and Cooper made two saves in the match.

Washington State concludes the regular season next week in Seattle. The Cougars will face the Washington Huskies in the Boeing Apple Cup Series, Friday, Nov. 3 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on Pac-12 Washington.
