Cougars fall to ninth-ranked Ducks in four sets

PULLMAN, Wash. — No. 6 Washington State volleyball (18-4, 8-3 Pac-12) reached double digits in blocks (10) as a team for a fourth-consecutive match, but ultimately fell in four sets, 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-23), to ninth-ranked Oregon (18-4, 8-3 Pac-12) which tallied 13 blocks as a team on Friday night in Bohler Gym.

Pia Timmer had a team-leading 12 kills to go along with 11 dgis and one ace.  Julia Norville led the Cougars with 14 digs on the night and hit career dig No. 1,000 during the opening set, making her the 14th member of the 1,000 career digs club at Washington State.  Norville also added three aces for the Cougs while libero Karly Basham chipped in nine digs and a pair of aces while also tallying three set assists as a passer.

Katy Ryan finished with eight kills on the night, brining the Cougars much-needed energy throughout the night with her powerful swinging.  Iman Isanovic added 10 kills while Magda Jehlarova had seven kills on top of six total blocks in the match.

The Cougars ranked seventh in the nation in team hitting percentage coming into the match (.298), but were only able to reach .128 hitting (40-24-125), a season-low for WSU, on Friday night.  Washington State struggled to put runs together and won only 50.5 percent of its sideout points on the evening.

Washington State will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as it welcomes Oregon State into Bohler Gym, beginning at 2 p.m. on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Oregon.  WSU will turn around and head back on the road next week as it heads to the Bay Area to take on Stanford on Friday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday match at Cal on Nov. 5, beginning at noon.
