DAY 8 BLOG | Athens – Panathenaic Stadium and Vouliagmeni Beach
The morning saw breakfast in the hotel and an optional tour of the Panathenaic Stadium where the 1896 and 2004 Olympic Games were held. About half of the travel party made it up for the mile walk to the stadium and the guided audio tour.
The entire team and staff then met up for a beach day. The team took the bus about 20 minutes to Vouliagmeni Beach; a lively beach with restaurants, music, and bouncy islands. More like a bouncy, inflatable island obstacle course, with jumps and slides and plenty of opportunity for hijinx.
Coaches and players alike had a blast, with only minor injuries reported (by coaches).
Since the evening was free to explore Athens and have dinner on their own, some players decided to stay at Vouliagmeni Beach and extended the beach day, while the rest of the team and staff headed back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.
Everyone went their own way for dinner and exploration; some staying close to the hotel, some seeking out amazing restaurants, and some shopping and exploring in the Plaka neighborhood.
Tomorrow is WSU's final exhibition of the foreign tour against the University of Regina Cougars (Canada).
