DAY 6 | Travel to Athens, Greece
A quick hotel breakfast and early bus to the airport for the flight to Athens was how the day started for the Cougs.
All the program (and bags!) made it to Athens and the team was off and running.
First was a fantastic beachside lunch at Allou Gialou. The meal was family style so everyone got to try all of the dishes that were served. Wonderful lunch in a perfect setting!
The team then went to the Athens headquarters for a Greek charity organization called "Smile For the Child." The organization was founded 27 years ago by a terminally ill child named Andreas, who had one wish – for the founding of this organization to help children. Today "Smile For the Child" provides support for four types of children in need: those affected by illness, poverty, violence, and child abduction support. The team made some very creative cards for the children, and brought 29 basketballs to donate.
Next the team headed to the famous Acropolis for a three-hour guided walking tour the Acropolis ending in the picturesque neighborhood of Plaka. The Parthenon, the Propylaea and the Temple of Athena Nike were a few of the highlights of the ancient ruins dating from as far back as fifth century BC. The tour ended in the Plaka neighborhood with cobble-stoned streets lined with cafes and restaurants. A wonderful experience for the team.
The Cougs then headed to the hotel for check-in and were released to grab dinner on their own and explore Athens.
