Cougars sweep hammer throw to open Bucs Scoring Invite on Thursday

SPOKANE, Wash.— Washington State men's and women's track and field teams battled heavy rainfall and snow slicking up running and throwing surfaces to post a five top-five finishes while sweeping the men's and women's hammer throw on day one of the Buc Scoring Invite at Whitworth University.

SPOKANE, Wash.— Washington State men's and women's track and field teams battled heavy rainfall and snow slicking up running and throwing surfaces to post a five top-five finishes while sweeping the men's and women's hammer throw on day one of the Buc Scoring Invite at Whitworth University. 
 
Alex Payne moved into seventh all-time at WSU with a personal-best mark of 57.01m on her first attempt of the day in the women's hammer. Tara Koonce opened the day with a 51.68m throw on her first throw and later moved into the runner-up spot with a 53.88 on her sixth and final attempt of the day. 
 
Caden Hottman (54.04m) followed up his Cougar debut from last week with a PR of almost seven feet to win his second meet of the season. Hottman has finished in the top in the first two meets of the season. 
 
Freshman Laura Lindquist improved on her season-best mark after a throw of 42.48m on her second attempt of the afternoon to place second in the women's javelin to wrap up the first of two days of competition at the Boppell Track & Whitworth Pine Bowl. 
 
The Cougars will wrap up the Bucs scoring Invite tomorrow Friday's running events start with the women's 1500m at 3:20 p.m. while the field events begin at 3:00 p.m. with the women's high jump.
