New Coug Finds Her Way Home

The new Coug on the Palouse was an instant game changer for the Cougar women's soccer team when she joined the team in July 2021.

Sydney Studer earned Second Team All-Region honors, Third Team All-Pac-12 honors and had a team-high six assists in her first year as a member of the Washington State University soccer team.

The Los Angeles native said she has embraced becoming a Coug and she loves Pullman and the people for many different reasons.

"My favorite part of the Cougar community is definitely all of the people that are here," Studer said. "As soon as I got here, I felt super welcomed and didn't feel like an outsider at all. Being a Coug is so unique. I feel like we all understand that it's all about hard work and we all kind of have that same hard-work ethic."

Studer said that she feels at home in Pullman. Although she has only been on campus for a year, she said she feels like she has been here for four. Studer is majoring in business marketing but plans on fulfilling her childhood dream of playing professional soccer for as long as she can.

She first started playing soccer when she was 3 years old and has dreamed of playing professionally and for the U.S. Women's National Team ever since.

"I want to play soccer for as long as I physically can. I love this sport so much and I wouldn't want to do anything else but play," Studer said.

Studer has a promising future when it comes to achieving her dreams. Throughout her soccer career, she has been called up to the national team multiple times and she said that it is always so rewarding to know that her hard work is being noticed.

Studer said she feels most comfortable at home in her own room, and she doesn't like to do much outside of soccer. Some of her interests include playing video games, watching and creating TikToks, and hanging out with her teammates and friends.

Studer joined the WSU team after transferring from Oregon State University with an impressive resume. During the 2021 spring season, Studer earned a selection to the United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region Second Team as well as All-Pac-12 Second Team honors after starting all 19 games that season. While being a defensive player, Studer still led OSU with 14 points and received the Benny for being the Beaver's most valuable player for both the women's soccer team and all of OSU athletics.

She grew up in a family centered around athletics. Her father, Todd, played football and her two younger siblings are involved in sports.
