WSU soccer star, Margie Detrizio, discusses life 1,300 miles from home

According to Washington State University soccer player Margie Detrizio, there could not be a better fit for her than WSU. The community and her teammates make her feel right at home.

"This Pullman weather is a little shocking at first, but I have a lot of great friends and teammates who make this home for me," Detrizio said.

Detrizio's choice to play soccer at WSU was an easy one, she said. Her mom, one of her role models, made the process of choosing WSU very easy.

"She was very supportive of me on where I wanted to go and I valued her input when I was choosing schools," the Arizona native said.

The junior forward is majoring in human development and said she hopes she will be drafted by a professional organization after she graduates.

Detrizio said she is very close with her family and admits to feeling homesick sometimes when she feels alone. However, she enjoys her independence and often calls home to catch up with her tight-knit family.

When she's not scoring goals for the Cougars, she enjoys walking her dog, driving around with friends and making TikToks.

"People would be surprised to find out that I'm a nice person," she said. Teammate Isabella Weaver agreed.

"This may come as a surprise to some people, due to her aggressiveness and fearlessness on the field, but her friendliness could warm a room," Weaver said.

An interesting tidbit about Detrizio is that she has never sustained an injury in her soccer career. She has remained in prime condition, playing in all 21 games last season and finishing fifth in scoring with four goals. She also dished out three crucial assists to her teammates.

Detrizio said she is determined to win an award on her soccer team in the upcoming season and lead her team to the PAC-12 Championship. She said she wants her legacy at WSU to be that she does more than anyone else. She wants to be remembered at WSU forever.
