Cougs host rematch with Colorado Sunday in Bohler Gym

Washington State swept Utah on Friday night to begin a four-match home stretch in Bohler.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- On the heels of a Friday night sweep in Bohler Gym, 25th-ranked Washington State volleyball (20-8, 12-5 Pac-12) gets set for a rematch against Colorado (18-9, 10-7 Pac-12) Sunday afternoon as it hosts the second match in a four-match home stand to close out the 2022 Pac-12 season.  Sunday's match against the Buffaloes will be televised live on Pac-12 Mountain.

Last week's Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, Pia Timmer, had a match high 16 kills and hit .394 (16-3-33) on Friday against Utah. Washington State finished with a .354 (49-15-96) to .159 (28-15-82)  edge in hitting on Friday as it improved to 9-1 at home on the season.  The sweep over the Utes also gave WSU its fourth 20-win season in the last five years with another three Pac-12 matches still to play.

>> Washington State defeated Utah in three sets for its 13th sweep of the season and its ninth win in Bohler Gym where they've won 14 of the last 15 matches dating back to last season.
>> The Cougs held steady at No. 25 in the week 12 AVCA Division I Coaches' Poll after cracking the top-25 for the first time last week.
>> Washington State's .275 hitting percentage as a team was 18th in the NCAA going into Friday's match.  The Cougs' efficient night on offense bumped their season average to .277 going into Sunday's match.
>> Pia Timmer was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career and the first time this season after averaging 4.57 kills/set while hitting .310 against ASU and Arizona.
>> Timmer had a match-high 16 kills in Friday's win and has reached double-digit kills in six straight matches for the Cougs.
>> Fifth-year grad transfer from the Netherlands, Laura Jansen, has four double-doubles on the season and leads the Cougars with 3.56 kills/set.
>> Going into the weekend, Magda Jehlarova ranked No. 1 in the Pac-12 and 13th in the NCAA with 1.41 blocks/set and No. 1 in the Pac-12 and 14th in the NCAA with 137 total blocks.  Her .378 hitting percentage is good for 31st in the NCAA and third in the Pac-12.
>> Jehlarova finished with three total blocks and two solo blocks Friday vs. Utah and heads into Sunday's match just 11 blocks shy of tying Claire Martin for second all-time at WSU in career blocks (577).
>> Karly Basham has a career-high and team-leading 35 aces at the service line and has reached double-digit digs in three of the last four matches including a team-high 10 digs in Friday's win over Utah.
>> Six-foot setter from Mexico, Argentina Ung, tied her career-high with six blocks in last week's sweep at Arizona State.  She has five matches this season with five or more blocks.
>> In her first nine matches moving from outside hitter to middle blocker for WSU, Weronika Wojdyla averaged .53 blocks/set and had a negative hitting percentage (5-6-20, -.050) while the Cougars went 5-4 as a team during that stretch.  In the nine matches since, Wojdyla has averaged .65 blocks/set and is hitting .440 (14-3-25) while the Cougs are 7-2.
>> Wojdyla finished Friday's sweep vs. Utah with five kills on only seven swings and zero errors (.714).
Colorado Notes
>> >> WSU is 11-10 all-time against Colorado and is 8-3 all-time in Pullman.
>> The Cougars saw a seven-match winning streak snapped in Boulder back on Oct. 14 as the Cougs fell in four sets to the Buffaloes.
>> Last month's trip to Colorado and Utah was the sixth weekend spent away from home during the first eight weeks on the season for WSU.
>> The Buffaloes have split its last two weekends with losses at the hands of No. 8 Stanford and a five-set loss to No. 14 Oregon.
>> CU heads into Sunday's matchup off of a sweep over 21st-ranked Washington in Seattle on Friday night.
>> Lexi Hadrych (13) and Maya Tabron (11) had double-digit kills in Friday's win and the Buffs dropped in eight aces as a team.

Up Next:
The Cougars will have only one off day following Sunday's match as it gets set to host UCLA (14-12, 8-9 Pac-12) on Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by their season-finale against Apple Cup rival No. 21 Washington (18-9, 10-7 Pac-12) on Friday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m.
