PULLMAN, Wash. -- Reigning Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week Pia Timmer finished with a match-high 16 kills as 25th-ranked Washington State volleyball (20-8, 12-5 Pac-12) swept Utah (15-13, 8-9 Pac-12), 25-20, 25-12, 25-18, Friday night in Bohler Gym.

Washington State has now won 20 or more matches in four of the last five seasons and the Cougars improve to 9-1 on the season in Bohler Gym where they have won 14 of 15 dating back to last season.

"We've had a saying all year about winning one in a row.  We weren't going to look past Utah and we aren't going to look past Colorado (on Sunday)," said Associate Head Coach Burdette Greeny.  "Being at home is huge after being on the road for six of the first eight weeks."

Weronika Wojdyla, who has shifted from outside hitter to middle blocker after early-season injuries, had one of her best matches of the year with five kills on seven swings and zero errors (.714) against Utah.  Argentina Ung dished out 42 assists and three blocks on the night as the Cougar offense got better as the match progressed and had spurts of dominance in front of a strong Friday night crowd.

"Everything starts with our serve and we put a lot of work into our blocking so that we can get easy first touches to transition out.  Our offense was clicking, we hit .354 tonight, and we're doing some stuff this year that's looking pretty good," said Greeny.

Washington State finished with only a pair of aces in the final box score but kept unrelenting pressure on the Utes with their serve all night, finishing with a .918 serve percentage after only six errors at the line.  WSU was able to find easy points early in rallies throughout the match as 44 of the Cougs' 49 kills came off of either first ball attacks (18) or first transition attacks (26).

WSU led start to finish in the opening set after a 4-1 Cougs' run opened the match.  The Cougars started the match with 11 kills on their first 13 swings (11-0-13, .846) and Timmer came out of the locker room on fire offensively, tallying four kills on her first swings, the latter of which forced an early Utah timeout at 13-7.

Washington State kept its foot on the gas and went on a 7-3 stretch that gave it a 23-19 advantage.  Utah later suffered from back-to-back attack errors to close out the set as a 25-20 win for the Cougs.

Utah finished with better hitting numbers in the opening set (11-3-27, .296) as the Cougars finished with seven attack errors (15-7-29, .276) to start the match, but WSU's early momentum and evenly distributed offense helped it hold on to gain the upper hand in the match.

Laura Jansen picked up her game and finished with five kills on only eight swings in the second (5-2-8, .375) while setter Argentina Ung tallied three of the Cougs' five blocks a team in the second.

WSU went on its first big run in the second early, jumping ahead by six with a 5-0 run that put them in front, 10-4.  WSU later saw another burst of momentum behind Julia Norville's serve and went on a 4-0 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead.  The Cougars later closed out the set with another 4-0 run behind Timmer's serve and quickly put away the second, 25-12.

The Cougars tallied five blocks as a group in the second set and Utah was held to a negative hitting percentage (8-10-26, -.077) as Washington State took the two-set advantage.

Set 3 Recap
Washington State jumped in front, 8-5, early in the third set with Logan Golden stepping in to serve through what proved to be a 5-0 Cougars' run.  Utah was within one at 17-16 but a 4-1 Cougars' run pushed their lead back up to four.

Timmer suffered one of her two attack errors to cut the WSU lead to 21-18, but the Cougars responded with a quick sideout and finished off the match on a 4-0 run that was capped with Timmer's 16th kill of the match.

Utah had only nine kills as a team in the third set and Washington State hit match-high .390 (22-6-41) as a team to finish off its 13th sweep of the season.

Up Next:
Washington State will close out the weekend against Colorado (18-9, 10-7 Pac-12) on Sunday in Bohler Gym beginning at noon.  The Cougars will then face a quick turnaround before hosting UCLA (14-12, 8-9 Pac-12) on Tuesday at 6 p.m., followed by their season-finale against Apple Cup rival No. 21 Washington (18-9, 10-7 Pac-12) on Friday, Nov. 25, at 6 p.m.
