Academic Services Announces April Student-Athletes of the Month

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women's track and field's Amy Kraemer and baseball's Jack Smith have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2022.

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women's track and field's Amy Kraemer and baseball's Jack Smith have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for April 2022.
 
A third-year thrower for the Cougs' track and field team, Kraemer has sported a 3.92 gpa while working on a degree in Kinesiology while minoring in strength and conditioning. Out of competition, she has interned in the athletic department as a part of strength and conditioning and is currently working as an aide at Performance Physical Therapy in Pullman as well as in the Gait and Posture Biomechanics Research Lab on campus. She has participated in the Bruya-Wood Undergraduate Research Conference and was a Human Anatomy Teaching Assistant in 2020 and 2021. Additionally, Kraemer was a mentor for the Honors College for two years as well as two years as a Coug Pal. She will be competing her internship this summer at Reactiv Training Center in Moscow and has been accepted into the Kinesiology master's program for the fall. As a thrower, Kraemer competed in two events in the indoor season this year. She most recently finished with a personal best of 53.94m in the hammer throw in the Cougs' win over rival Washington at the annual WSU-UW Dual Meet in Pullman.

A graduate fifth-year on the diamond for the Cougs', Smith is currently working on his MBA after graduating with a degree in finance last year. Earlier this year he was nominated as one of 30 baseball student-athletes around the country for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award. Smith has been selected to the team's leadership council each of the past two years and has also served on WSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as baseball's representative. Off the field, he has helped the Cougar Baseball program work with the Whitman County Special Olympics and WSU ROAR program. In the classroom he is a three-time all-academic honoree. On the field, Smith has proven to be the Cougs' most reliable hitter sporting a team-best .368 average which ranks fourth in the Pac-12. He has played in all 36 games for the Cougs while posting 50 hits including 11 doubles and has driven in a team-best 27 runs.
