Cougars Cap Pac-12 Championships With Best Team Score in Program History

HOUSTON (Feb. 27, 2021) – Washington State Swimming closed the final day of the Pac-12 Conference Championships in Houston with another school record and finished with the highest team score in program history.
 
The Cougars tallied 533 points, the most scored in a Pac-10/12 Conference Championship Meet since totaling 793 points at the NorPac Championships in 1985-86. 
 
Senior Chloe Larson, who gave the Cougars their first individual conference champion in program history with a title in the 50 free Thursday, capped her week with a program-record 100 free in the morning preliminaries (49.00) and again in the evening "B" final (48.74).
 
In the 200 back, senior Taylor McCoy posted an NCAA "B" time with a 1:57.09 while fellow senior Mackenzie Duarte also record an NCAA "B" time in the 200 breast prelims with a 2:13.11. A pair of freshmen closed the championships with their best swims of the year as Alexandra Vartiainen posted a Top-10 time in the 200 breast in the 2:14.91, good for eighth-fastest in WSU history while Kiana Swain posted a Top-10 time in the 200 fly with a 2:02.40, good for seventh-fastest in program history
 
The Cougars will await the NCAA Championship selections Wednesday.
