PULLMAN, Wash. (Dec. 2, 2021) -- The NCAA released the latest Division I graduation rate data, including the division's Graduation Success Rate (GSR), which included a program-best score for Washington State Athletics.
Washington State's GSR score rose three percent to a record 90 percent, continuing a trend that has seen the Cougars improve their score in each of the past six years. Dating back to 2008 when WSU's GSR score was 77 percent, measured gains have been recorded over the past 13 years, culminating with this year's 90 percent.
"The last two years in collegiate athletics have been so challenging, requiring our student-athletes to adapt to new ways to practice, compete and even learn," said WSU Faculty Athletic Representative Nancy Swanger. "Some of the fun aspects of being a student-athlete have been lost but their resiliency and approach to succeed in this ever-changing environment is commendable. I am so proud of all they have accomplished."
For the most recent data, WSU had three sport programs, men's basketball, along with women's and men's golf, all record perfect GSR scores of 100. It marked the fourth-straight year men's golf recorded a perfect score while the women's program posted its third consecutive and men's basketball it's second-straight score of 100. In all, 13 of WSU's 15 programs remained constant or improved over last year's score.
Cougar Athletics also saw great improvement in the single-year GSR scores for the majority of its teams. Twelve programs recorded perfect single-year scores of 100, with all 15 programs tying or showing improvement for over last year's score.
The GSR includes student-athletes who received athletic aid and enrolled at Washington State as freshmen or transfer students between 2011-14, and completed their degree within six years.
