PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State soccer's Mykiaa Minniss and footballs Travion Brown have been named the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for November 2021.
The captain of the soccer team, Minniss showed her leadership guiding her Cougs to one of their most successful seasons in program history in the fall. On the field, Minniss earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors as well as first team all-region honors for her play as WSU finished third in the Pac-12 posting a program-best 7-1-3 record. The Cougs would play their way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons before bowing out of the tournament. Off the field, Minniss is a standout student with a 3.19 GPA while also spending time as a member of the Black Student Athlete Alliance.
A standout linebacker on the field and a criminal justice major off the field, Brown has been the epitome of what it means to be a student-athlete. Off the field, Brown has spent time doing community service work in nursing back home in California while on the Palouse he has been involved in Butch's Bash as well as playing his course work knowledge alongside of Tri-Cities police officers during ride alongs. On the field Brown has become one of the Cougs most feared linebackers as he will lead the Cougs onto the field against rival Washington Friday night in search of an Apple Cup victory. He has played in 10 games on the year, so far, making 29 tackles including 19 solo efforts while forcing one fumble.
Each month Washington State Academic Services honors a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
