Two School Records Fall on Opening Day at Phill Hansel Invite

HOUSTON, Texas (November 18, 2021) – Washington State Women's Swimming broke a pair of school records and recorded a Top-10 time during the opening day of the Phill Hansel Invitational hosted by the University of Houston Thursday. The Cougars tallied 261 points to finish day one in fifth out of nine while seven other competing schools received points in diving. WSU does not have diving.
 
Defending Pac-12 Conference Champion in the 50 free, senior Chloe Larson started her day by posting an NCAA "B" time while claiming the preliminary race.
 
In the evening session, the 200 freestyle relay team of Larson, Angela Di Palo, Paige Gardner and Noelle Harvey broke the school record with a 1:30.99, finishing second in the event and breaking the previous record of 1:31.09 set in 2015. Larson led off the relay with a school-record 22.13 in the 50 free, breaking her own school record by three-hundredths of a second.
 
During the morning preliminaries, freshman Noelle Harvey recorded 4:52.88 in the 500 freestyle, the tenth-fastest time in WSU history, but in the evening final the Carlsbad, Calif. native improved her time to a 4:51.96, good for a fifth-place finish and the ninth-fastest 500 free time in program history.
 
In the evening final of the 200 IM, seniors Taylor McCoy and Mackenzie Duarte finished fifth and seventh, respectively, while Larson capped her day with another win in the 50 freestyle with a 22.38, her second NCAA "B" time of the day, and freshman Di Palo finished tenth in the same event. The 400 medley relay team ended the meet finished second.
