PULLMAN, Wash. – On Monday, April 27, Washington State women's basketball head coach Kamie Ethridge announced the addition of Johanna Teder out of South Plains College to complete the 2020 signing class for the Cougars.
Teder, who is from Tartu, Estonia, played this past season at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. She played in all 33 games and made 14 starts for a Lady Texan's squad that went 32-1 in 2019-20. Teder was an All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) first team selection after averaging 7.9 points and 4.4 assists per game and shot 46.9% from the floor in her one season at SPC.
"I am excited to introduce Johanna Teder as the final piece to our 2020 signing class," said head coach Kamie Ethridge. "Johanna brings a tremendous level of skill as a versatile guard and possesses many of the intangibles I want, and look for, in recruiting young players. She is tough, physical, fearless as a competitor, and her motor is off-the-charts."
The 5-8 guard elevated her play in conference action, where she averaged 10.2 points and 4.7 assists in 14 WJCAC contests. Down the stretch, Teder averaged 13.6 points per game over her final nine games of the season and scored a career-high 26 points on March 5, 2020.
Prior to South Plains, Teder attended Audentese Spordigumnaasium in Tallinn, Estonia where she averaged 8.7 points and 4.9 assists per game over her final two seasons of play. She was also a member of the Estonia women's basketball national youth league. In 2018 she was a member of Estonia's U18 National Women's Basketball Team
"Johanna has predominantly played point guard in Estonia, but has the ability to play all 3 guard positions," added Ethridge. "She fits perfectly with what we are after in our guard game. We love players that can shoot the three, have the ability to handle the ball versus pressure, are creative passers and have a great feel for the game or basketball IQ. Johanna Teder checks all of those boxes."
With the addition of Teder, the 2020 signing class grows to four for Washington State. Teder is joined by 6-3 Canadian post player Jessica Clarke, who signed with the Cougs in November, along with guards Ekin Celikdemir from Turkey and Charlisse Leger-Walker from New Zealand, who both signed in mid-April.
