March 26, 2020 | Women's Basketball
SOFIA, Bulgaria -- For the third-straight year, Washington State women's basketball player Borislava Hristova has been named the top Bulgarian female basketball player playing aboard by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation.
Hristova was a near unanimous selection for the honor, as was voted on by local journalists, a select group of coaches throughout the country, and team captains in Group A of the NBL. The redshirt senior from Varna, Bulgaria saw her name on all but one ballot to earn the distinction of top Bulgarian female basketball player playing abroad for the third-consecutive year.
"First of all, I want to thank all the media, coaches and team captains who voted for me," said Hristova. "I always try to play for the name of my country and winning this award is an amazing honor and makes me want to work even harder."
The player known throughout Pullman as Bobi Buckets, put a cap on a legendary career with the Cougars during the 2019-20 season. She once again displayed her scoring prowess en route to a school-record fourth All-Pac-12 selection. Hristova, who is also the first player in WSU women's basketball history to score over 2,000 points in their career, led the Cougars in scoring for the third-straight season at 18.4 points per game, shot 45.2% from the floor, and pulled down 5.1 rebounds per game during her final season in a WSU uniform.
"I couldn't have (won this award) without the support of my coaches, teammates and fans here at Washington State," added Hristova.
Hristova scored 10-or-more points in 30 games this season, which set a WSU record for most double-digit scoring games by a senior. The 30 double-figure scoring contests in 2019-20 for Hristova is the third-most in a single-season in program history. Her 570 points scored during the 2019-20 campaign also ranks as the seventh-most scored in a single season in program history.
Bobi Buckets also had 13 games with 20-or-more points in 2019-20, which is tied for the fourth-most in a single season in program history and is the second-most collected by a senior at WSU. She scored a season-high 32 points on Jan. 31 in a home win over California to help the Cougs sweep the Bears for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Hristova leaves Washington State as the all-time leading scorer for either a male or female in Cougar basketball history with 2,269 career points. Hristova's career point total puts her at No. 11 on the Pac-12 women's basketball all-time scoring list. Bobi Buckets ends her WSU tenure holding seven school records, while she is the only player in Washington State basketball history to collect over 2,000 points and 500 rebounds in their career, male or female.
