STARTING FIVE
-> Washington State will be looking to make history on this Super Bowl Sunday, as the Cougars seek their first-ever win over Stanford in program history. WSU is 0-66 all-time against the Cardinal, which includes a 77-58 loss at Maples Pavilion earlier this season back on Jan. 3.
-> Â WSU enters play on Sunday in a tie for seventh in the Pac-12 standings with Southern Cal at 3-6 approaching the halfway mark of the conference season. The Cougars will play host to the Buffaloes (Feb. 7) and Utes (Feb. 9) next weekend at Beasley Coliseum, both of whom are currently a half-game behind the Cougs in ninth place with each team boasting a 3-7 record in conference play.
-> Friday's victory over California improved the Cougars overall season record to 10-11. The 10 wins surpasses last year's win total of nine, and gives second-year head coach Kamie Ethridge 19 wins, which is the second-most by a second-year head coach in WSU history.
-> No team in the Pac-12 has played more ranked opponents than the Cougars this season. Sunday's matchup against No. 6 Stanford will mark their ninth game against teams ranked in the top-25 of either the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches poll. Washington State is 0-9 against ranked opponents this season, which includes back-to-back games against the two teams atop the polls this week in Baylor (Nov. 28) and South Carolina (Nov. 29).
-> Pullman has been an unkind place to play for teams from California this season. Washington State is 4-0 against teams from the Golden State inside Beasley Coliseum in 2019-20, with wins over Pepperdine (85-48), CSUN (71-61), UC Irvine (87-59) and California (92-66).
LAST TIME OUT
On Friday, the Cougars got a 32-point performance from redshirt senior Borislava Hristova, while senior Chanelle Molina added a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to give Washington State a 92-66 victory over California to complete the season sweep over the Golden Bears.
Washington State shot an even 50% from the field in the win over Cal, as the Cougars hit 90 points for the second time this season, which coincidentally also came against the Golden Bears in a 96-75 win at Haas Pavilion. Three players established new season highs in points. Sophomore Ula Motuga scored 14 points, while freshman Grace Sarver tallied seven points, to follow Hristova's season-best 32 points.
HRISTOVA CLOSING IN ON 2,100 POINTS
Redshirt senior Borislava Hristova enters Sunday's contest needing just two points to become the first player in Washington State basketball history on either the men's or women's side to score 2,100 points in their career. Hristova currently has 2,098 career points and is coming off a season-best 32-point performance in Friday's win over California.
BOBI BUCKETS CONTINUES TO CLIMB
Friday's 32-point effort against Cal moved redshirt senior Borislava Hristova past Stanford's Val Whiting (1989-93) for 19th on the Pac-12 women's basketball all-time scoring list. Hristova's career point total stands at 2,098 and she needs just four points to surpass UCLA's Maylana Martin (1997-00) for 18th. She also enters Sunday just 28 points away from surpassing Jayne Appel's (Stanford; 2007-10) career point total of 2,125 for 17th all-time in Pac-12 history.
30 FOR BOBI
Borislava Hristova posted her seventh career game with 30-or-more points with a 32-point performance against Cal on Friday. The seven 30-point contests for Hristova now puts her in a tie with Jenni Ruff (1993-96) for the most career games with 30-or-more points in Washington State history.
FRIENDLY FRIEL COURT
The Cougars have put on quite the shooting display in front of the fans at Beasley Coliseum this season, as they have shot 50%-or-better from the field in five of their 10 home games. WSU is coming off a 58% shooting performance from the field in a win against Cal on Friday. Washington State is 7-1 this season when posting a field goal percentage of 50%-or-higher.
MOLINA ON THE DOORSTEP OF THE 1,000/400 CLUB
Senior Chanelle Molina needs only two more assists to become the first player in Washington State women's basketball history to collect over 1,000 points and 400 assists in their career. Meanwhile, the point guard currently sits in third on the WSU all-time assist list with 398, and she needs only six more assists to pass Katie Nyseth (1997-01) for second.
SCOUTING STANFORD
The Cardinal enter Sunday's game ranked No. 6 in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Poll. Stanford is currently a half-game behind No. 3 Oregon for first place in the Pac-12 at 8-1, while the Cardinal have won four-straight contests to push their overall record to 19-2.
Sophomore Lexie Hull's 13.4 points per game leads a trio of double-digit scorers for a Stanford offense that averages 75.6 points per game, which is the second-highest per-game average in the Pac-12. Â The Cardinal are posting a 45.5% success rate from the field through 21 games this season.
Defensively, Stanford has made it tough on teams this season by holding its opponents to 58.1 points per game. The No. 6-ranked team in the country has suffocated teams on the defensive end of the court this season and that has resulted in a 34.3% field goal percentage for their opposition.
