THE STARTING FIVE
-> Washington State enters the week on a two-game winning streak after collecting a pair of victories on the road at California (Jan. 5; 96-75) and at Washington (Jan. 11; 66-59). It was the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Cougs have collected back-to-back road wins in Pac-12 play. The last time WSU posted two-straight road victories was on Feb. 15, 2015 at Utah (61-52), followed by a win at Washington (83-72) on Feb. 20, 2015.
-> In just a season-and-a-half on the Palouse, Washington State head coach Kamie Ethridge has captured 18 wins, which is the second-most victories collected by a head coach during their first two seasons with the Cougs. The current high-mark in wins for a second-year head coach is 23 collected by Sue Durrant, who coached the team during the 1971-72, then took a year break before returning for the 1973-74, where she manned the sidelines until the 1981-82 campaign.
-> Last Saturday at Washington, redshirt senior Borislava Hristova became the first WSU women's basketball player in program history to score over 2,000 points in their career. She is the 23rd women's player in Pac-12 history to accomplish the feat. Hristova's 2,006 career points are the most ever scored by a WSU basketball player on either the men's or women's side. The previous record was held by Isaac Fontaine, who scored 2,003 points for the men's team from 1994-97.
-> Friday's contest against Arizona will open a new decade of Washington State women's hoops at Beasley Coliseum. The Cougars went 60-70 at home from 2010-2019. This year's version of the Cougs stand at 5-2 at home, while Washington State is 12-11 inside Beasley under Coach Ethridge.
-> Washington State enters play on Friday with a 9-7 overall record and a 2-2 mark in the Pac-12. The nine wins this season equals the nine-win total from last year's WSU women's basketball team with 14 games remaining on the schedule this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Washington State scored 29 fourth quarter points to mount a 66-59 come-from-behind win against Washington last Saturday, Jan. 11, in Seattle. The Cougars got a 20-point performance from Borislava Hristova to become the first player in Washington State women's basketball history to score 2,000 points in a career.
The win marked the second-straight season that the Cougs have knocked off the Huskies in Seattle, and they have now won four of the last six meetings against Washington.
KNOCKING DOWN THEIR SHOTS
Washington State has been one of the best shooting teams in the nation in both field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage throughout the 2019-20 season. The Cougars rank inside the top-40 nationally in both categories, as they rank 35th in NCAA Division I in field goal percentage with a 45.0% success rate, while their 35.7% performance from behind the arc puts them at 36th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage.
MOVING UP ON CAREER LISTS
Senior Chanelle Molina continues to move up on the Washington State career assists, scoring and 3-point field goals made lists in her final season on the Palouse.
The eldest of the three Molina sisters needs just three more points to move into 11th on the WSU all-time scoring list. April Cook (2008-12) currently holds that mark with 1,188 career points. Molina is also currently fourth on the all-time made 3-point field goals made with 154, while her 373 career assists puts her at fifth on the all-time assists list.
BOBI BOARDS
Senior Borislava Hristova is the first player in Washington State basketball history to score over 2,000 points and to pull down over 500 rebounds on either the men's on women's side.
Hristova has collected 502 career rebounds in 112 career rebounds. The forward is second on the team in rebound this season at 6.1 caroms per game.
NAME A BETTER DUO, WE'LL WAIT…
Seniors Chanelle Molina and Borislava Hristova has been the most prolific scoring duo in the Pac-12 Conference this season, as both players rank inside the top-five in total points scored. Hristova is currently second in the Pac-12 in total points with 307 through 16 games, while Molina is fourth in the conference with 259 points.
No set of teammates have outperformed Hristova's and Molina's 566 combined points in the Pac-12 this season. Oregon All-Americans Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu are the next closest to WSU's dynamic duo with a combined 497 points heading into play this week.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats come to Beasley looking to snap a three-game losing streak, as they hold a 2-3 mark through five Pac-12 games. The Wildcats still hold an impressive 13-3 overall record and rank in the Top-25 in both polls this week, coming in at No. 21 in the Associated Press Poll and placing No. 22 in the USA Today/Coaches Poll.
Arizona's offensive attack features one of the most prolific scorers in the Pac-12, as Aari McDonald's 20.1 points per game paces the conference in per game scoring. Cate Reese's 14.3 points per game places her at 13th in the Pac-12 in scoring, as the duo has helped the Wildcats average 69.9 points per game on a 45.2% success rate from the floor.
Defense has been key for Arizona this season, as the Wildcats have limited teams to a conference-best 49.6 points per game this season. The Wildcats have been extremely stingy from the floor against their oppositions, as teams are only shooting 32.7% from the floor against them, which is the best defensive field goal percentage in the Pac-12.
