PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Award for its academic achievement during the 2019-2020 season. Additionally, student-athletes Michaela Bayerlova, Maddie Egan, Jovana Knezevic, Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Carla Quadflieg were also recognized for their academic accomplishments with the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award.
During the 2019-20 season, the Cougars earned a 3.69 team grade point average, including a spring semester GPA of 3.84, a program best. The Cougar tennis team earned the ITA Academic Award for the 14th consecutive season. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Individual ITA Scholar-Athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA.
Bayerlova, a rising redshirt-junior from Krumbach, Germany, maintained a 3.79 grade point average for 2019-20 while majoring in data analytics. On the court she went 13-0 in singles at the No. 1 position and finished the season ranked No. 46 nationally.
Egan, from Puyallup, Wash., concluded her freshman campaign with a 3.79 GPA while studying communication. Egan was 8-4 in singles and 3-3 in doubles play for the season.
Knezevic, from Limassol, Cyprus, had a 3.71 GPA this past year while earning her degree in sport management. A doubles specialist, Knezevic was 7-4 in doubles this season, clinching the doubles point for WSU in three matches with partner Pang Jittakoat.
Ly-Nguyen, a rising redshirt-sophomore from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, concluded her year with a 4.00 GPA with studying neuroscience. Playing in the middle of the Cougar lineup, she posted a 16-10 singles record while also representing Vietnam at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, capturing the Silver Medal.
Quadflieg, from Retinne, Belgium, concluded her freshman campaign with a 4.00 GPA with a focus on communication. For the season, she recorded an 11-3 singles record and 10-3 doubles mark.
