NEW ORLEANS – Washington State University men's and women's track and field teams saw eight total student-athletes receive national recognition for their combination of athletic and academic excellence in 2020 among all NCAA Division I institutions by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Six WSU women track and field competitors were honored for individual All-Academic awards: Stephanie Cho (senior, hurdles, Vancouver, B.C., Canada), a sport science major; Emily Coombs (junior, pole vault, Santa Ana, Calif.), an elementary education major; Jelena Grujic (junior, middle distance, Novi Sad, Serbia), a sport science major; Zorana Grujic (junior, steeplechase, Novi Sad, Serbia), a sport science major; Kaili Keefe (senior, distance, Yakima, Wash.), a public relations major and Jordyn Tucker (senior, sprints, Monrovia, Calif.), a biology major.
The two WSU men honored were: Jacob Englar (sophomore, pole vault, Nampa, Idaho), a psychology major, and Zach Stallings (junior, distance, Reno, Nev.), a finance major.
The women's and men's squads for the Cougars as a whole, each earned All-Academic Team recognition as well, with the women posting a team grade point average of 3.51, and the Washington State men's team at 3.02 overall.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All‐Academic Track and Field Team as an individual, the student‐athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student‐athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
To qualify for USTFCCA All-Academic Team award, the cumulative GPA (not 2018-19 academic year, not semester) for all student-athletes on the institution's NCAA Squad List for Indoor and/or Outdoor Track and Field must be 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, certifiable by either NCAA Faculty Rep or NCAA Compliance Coordinator or Registrar's Office.
