INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA released its 2018-19 Academic Progress Rate (APR) figures and five of Washington State University's intercollegiate athletic programs posted perfect single-year APR scores, it was announced Tuesday.
The APR is an annual assessment of each team's academic and retention history. The overall APR score is based on the most recent four years of data (2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19). Every year thereafter, the most current year's data will be added and the oldest year of data will be removed, creating a four-year rolling rate.
For the 2018-19 academic year, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's track and field, tennis, along with men's golf earned perfect single-year APR scores of 1,000. Last week, men's golf was recognized by the NCAA for being among the top 10 percent among all programs nationally within their sport after posting a four-year APR score of 1,000, the second-straight year it received the honor.
The WSU football team recorded a four-year average score of 963, up three points from last year's score. The single-year (2018-19) score for the football program was 969.
In addition to men's golf and football, additional four-year APR scores on the men's side include cross country (977), track & field (964), basketball (959) and baseball (956).
On the women's side, the highest four-year APR score was earned by volleyball (994), followed by basketball (991) and golf (991). Other women's programs include track & field (987) soccer (984), tennis (984), rowing (978), cross country (977) and swimming (967).
