Cougars Conclude Opening Round at Bandon Dunes Championship

BANDON, Ore – Washington State men's golf team wrapped up the opening 18 holes at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday, March 8. Senior Scott Redelsperger, golfing as an individual, lead the way for the Cougars on the individual leaderboard, going 3-over 74 on the day.

As a team, the Cougars are in a share for 13th place with a combined score of 302 (+18) with 36 holes left to play at the Pacific Dunes Golf Course.

The best opening round for Washington State came from Redelsperger. The senior made a 3-over 74 on his opening 18 holes, putting him in tie for 43rd. Only two-strokes behind were freshmen Christian Yanagi and Tianyu Wu. Yanagi caught fire on the back nine, making three birdies during his opening round. Similarly, Wu found success early during his first 18 holes of play, sinking three birdies on his front nine. Both Yanagi and Wu finished with a 4-over 75 and are tied for 57th.

One-stroke behind them comes seniors Nicklaus Chiam, Daniel Kolar, and freshman Yuya Eguchi. Chiam made three birdies on his opening round, two of which coming from his front nine. Chiam, Kolar, and Eguchi all sit in a tie for 70 th with a first-round score of 76 (+4).

Oregon State leads by three strokes with a score of 281(-3). Individually, Nathan Cogswell from Seattle U is leading the individual leaderboards with a score of 65 (-6).
