PULLMAN, Wash. – Three former Washington State rowers recently represented their respective countries at World Rowing Cup II in Poznan, Poland, while rising-senior
Ivy Elling Quaintance was named to the Canadian Under 23 World Championship team.
Nicole Hare teamed up with Madison Mailey, Susanne Grainger, Jennifer Martins, Avalon Wasteneys, Kasia Gruchalla-Wesierski, Hillary Janssens, Rebecca Zimmerman and Kristen Kit in the Canadian Women's Eight. Hare's crew advanced to the A Final, finishing sixth with a time of 6:38.980. Australia captured gold, followed by the United States and Great Britain.
Lisa Roman teamed up with Kristin Bauder as one of the Canadian Women's Pair crews. Roman and Bauder finished second in the C Final, 14th overall with a time of 7:55.100, less than three seconds behind Poland in first in the heat.Â
Ieva Adomaviciute of Lithuania finished second in the C Final of the Women's Double Sculls. She and teammate Milda Valciukaite came in at 7:31.280, just one second behind the Czech Republic which won the heat. Â The Lithuanian duo finished 14th overall.Â
Rising-senior
Ivy Elling Quaintance was named to the Canadian Under 23 World Championship team for the second-straight year, where she will race as a member of the Women's Four crew. The World Rowing U23 Championships will take place in Bradenton Fla., July 24-28. Las season Elling Quaintance captured gold as a member of Canada's U23 Women's Eight crew.Â
Hare was a member of the Cougar varsity rowing team for four seasons, rowing in the varsity boat all four years (2013-15; 17). She was a three-time CRCA All-Region 5 honoree, picking up first team honors in 2014 and second team in 2015 and 2017. In both 2014 and 2015, Hare was named CRCA Division I All-America Second Team. She is returning to duty for the Canadian national team, having competed in the women's pair at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also captured Silver at the 2017 World Championships as a member of Canada's women's eight crew. Hare won gold at the 2016 World Rowing Championships Under-23 Championships in the women's pair.Â
A transfer from University of the Fraser Valley, Roman competed with the Cougar varsity rowing team for three seasons, competing in the varsity boat all three years (2010-12). Roman was named CRCA Division I Second Team All-America in 2012, as well as first team all-Region 5. She has competed with the Canadian women's eight since 2011, having won gold at the World Rowing Cup III in 2015. She's an Olympian having helped guide the women's eight to a fifth-place finish at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also captured Silver at the 2017 World Championships as a member of Canada's women's eight crew.
Adomaviciute competed with the Cougar rowing team for four seasons, redshirting her senior season (2015-16) to train and compete with the Lithuanian national team. She is a two-time Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I All-American and First Team All-Region 5 honoree (2013, 2017), as well as a 2017 Pac-12 All-Conference honoree. In 2013, Adomaviciute was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year. In 2016, she captured gold in the single sculls at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships.Â
Elling Quaintance just completed her third year with the WSU rowing team. She rowed with the varsity eight crew in 2017-18, finishing 14th as a boat and 14th as a team at the 2018 NCAA Championships. As a freshman, Elling Quaintance rowed with the second varsity eight, as her crew finished 15th at the 2017 NCAA Championships and the Cougars placed 14th as a team.
