Kamie Ethridge announced the signing of transfer
Krystal Leger-Walker (Waikato, New Zealand) from Northern Colorado. Leger-Walker will sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer rules before playing her senior season with the Cougars in 2020-21. Leger-Walker is the fifth player to join the Cougars this recruiting period along with freshmen
Leah Mafua (Wellington, New Zealand),
Bella Murekatete (Ngoma Huye, Rwanda),
Emma Nankervis (Mount Eliza, Australia), and
Grace Sarver (Seattle, Wash.).

Krystal Leger-Walker," said Ethridge. "We recruited Krystal out of high school in New Zealand and coached her for two years at Northern Colorado. Â At UNC, Krystal, led us to 48 wins in her first two years. She is an exceptional competitor and leader. Krystal comes from elite level basketball DNA. Her mother, Leanne Walker, represented the Tall Ferns in the Olympics and World Championships and is considered one of the best players to have ever played for New Zealand. She is now a premier HS coach for St Peter's Cambridge."

"She has the rare ability to positively effect a game in numerous ways and will continue to improve over the next two years. She is a natural born leader whose number one goal is to make others better. Krystal is a high character, hard-working, and driven competitor that will impact our program on a new levels!"
A 5-9 combo guard, Leger-Walker spent the last three season's leading the Bears to the most successful era of basketball in UNC history. With Leger-Walker on the court, the Bears won 69 games in three seasons while advancing to the postseason each of the last seasons including the program's first NCAA appearance in 2018. In addition to their overall success, Leger-Walker led the Bears to Big Sky dominance winning a program-record 15 conference games in each of the last two seasons while taking the conference title in 2017-18. A distributor first, Leger-Walker posted 378 assists in three seasons, the fourth most in UNC history. Her 148 assists as a junior ranked seventh all-time in Bears' single-season annals and second in their Division I history despite missing four games due to injury. In 27 games last year, Leger-Walker averaged 5.5 assists per game, leading the Big Sky while ranking 26th among all Division I players. In all, Leger-Walker finished her third season at UNC averaging 8.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. Off the court, Leger-Walker earned a pair of Academic All-Big Sky awards.
