FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team completed day one of the Pac-12 Championships Friday.
The Cougars started off the day with a season-best time in the 200 medley relay. Freshman
Lauren Burckel, senior
Linnea Lindberg, and sophomores
Kelly Morgan and
Chloe Larson clocked a 1:42.57 for eighth place.
The Cougars then turned around to complete another season-best relay. Freshman
Keiana Fountaine, sophomore
Samantha Howell, freshman
Emily Barrier, and junior
Ryan Falk worked together to touch the wall in 7:22.98 in the 800 free relay.
"Our girls had a lot of high energy tonight, and some nerves, said head coach
Matt Leach. "Hopefully we got those nerves out of our system and we can be a little bit sharper tomorrow. We're looking to get better as we go, and just get used to the set up and timing of the meet. We want to be excited for each other and do our best out there; tonight was just the beginning of it. I'm excited with the start, obviously we're determined to get better as we go. Hopefully we'll see that the rest of the meet."
The Cougars will begin day two of the conference championships Thursday. Preliminary rounds of the 500 free, 200 IM, and 50 free begin at 10:30 a.m.; finals for those events and the 200 free relay begin at 6 p.m.
