PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State running back Max Borghi and soccer forward Morgan Weaver have both been named finalists for Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards.

The 85th Annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year Awards are Feb. 6 in Seattle. Voting to select both the male and female winner begins Jan. 13, online.

In his second year in the Cougars' backfield, Borghi led the way as one of the nation's top all-purpose backs. He finished the regular season second in the Pac-12 with 15 total touchdowns, third with 11 rushing touchdowns, fifth in all-purpose yards (114.8) and led all Pac-12 backs averaging 6.5 yards-per-carry. Borghi led all running backs nationally with 81 receptions and was the only player to record 750+ rush yards, 550+ receiving yards and 15 total touchdowns. The Colorado native tallied four 100-yards rushing games and went over 100 all-purpose yards eight times.

For his play throughout the year, Borghi earned his second career All-Pac-12 accolade after being named Freshman of the Year honorable mention last season. With his ability to breakdown defenses, Borghi helped guide the Cougs to bowl eligibility for a record fifth-straight season. WSU will take on Air Force in the Cheez-It Bowl Dec. 27.

A native of the West Side, Weaver finished her illustrious career at WSU in 2019 leading her Cougars to new heights. Named just the second all-american in program history this season, Weaver led WSU's potent offensive attack, scoring a career-best 15 goals to go with five assists. Her 15 goals and 35 total points ranked as the third-best scoring season in program history and the top mark in the last 26 seasons.

With Weaver at the point of the attack, the Cougars played their way to their first College Cup, finishing their historic run in the semifinals. Hitting her stride at the end of the year, Weaver scored 10 goals in the final eight games including four in the postseason. She capped her senior campaign by becoming the first Cougar to score a goal in the College Cup, netting the opener against No. 2 North Carolina. She would go on to be named to the all-tournament team at the completion of the College Cup. In addition to earning all-conference, all-region, and all-america honors, Weaver earned the distinction of becoming one of the first Cougars in program history to be called into camp with the senior women's national team. For her career, Weaver finished with 43 goals and 98 total points, both ranking second all-time in program history.

Weaver was also a finalist for the award last season alongside of Coug quarterback, Gardner Minshew II, who took home the Male Sports Star award.
