PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State freshman Magda Jehlářová continued to add accolades to her fantastic season, being named the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year as released Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Magda was the sole freshman to receive a Pacific North Region First Team selection as well.

A middle blocker from Prerov, Czech Republic, Jehlářová was a dominate force throughout the season both offensively and defensively for the Cougars, as she is the second WSU Volleyball player to earn the AVCA Pacific North Region Freshman of the Year award, with Kyra Holt being selected in 2013. She concluded her first year in a WSU uniform with 180.0 total blocks, finishing fourth in the nation in the stat category. Magda finished seventh overall in the nation in blocks per set as well with 1.46.

The lone freshman to earn All-Pac-12 First Team honors, Magda led the conference during the regular season in total block, and in blocks per set. Jehlářová went on to finish the regular season second in the Pac-12 in block assists, and second in solo blocks as well.

She finished fifth all-time in Washington State volleyball history for total blocks in a season (180), sixth for block assists in a single season (151), eighth all-time in blocks per set in a season (1.46), and third all-time in hitting percentage within in a single season at .357 overall. Magda recorded a statement performance in the final regular season match of the year in a five-set win over No. 9 Washington, leading the Cougs with 12 total kills, a hitting percentage of .333, and 10 total blocks for her first career double-double as well.

The Cougs saw the 2019 season wrap up in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament against No. 20 San Diego, falling to the Toreros 3-1 in the Honolulu region. During her final performance as a freshman for the Crimson and Gray, Magda posted eight kills, and eight total blocks, leading WSU both offensively and defensively in the contest.
