In Case You Missed It
PULLMAN, Wash. – In a game for the ages, senior
Morgan Weaver put an exclamation point on her career at Lower Soccer Field as the senior star tied a Cougar record with four goals to lead Washington State (12-5-1, 5-4-1) to a 4-1 win over Colorado (11-6-2, 3-5-2) Sunday in the home regular season finale in Pullman. Coming off of a cathartic two-goal performance against Utah Thursday, Weaver wasted no time getting on the board once again as the ace attacker netted the first of her four goals just 2:26 into the contest. Combining passes and runs with
Brianna Alger and
Averie Collins, Weaver finished off the buildup into the box with a banger to the upper-90. After just missing adding to what would become a monster day before halftime, Weaver came out on fire in the second half, cleaning up a rebound in front of goal just 1:39 into the new half for her second tally of afternoon. The onslaught would continue eight minutes later when Weaver rose above her defender and headed home the hat-trick off a cross from
Makamae Gomera-Stevens who had worked her magic on the ball before hitting a pin-point cross. With the record in reach, Weaver finished off her senior day with one last goal, out-running the Buffaloes' defense before one-timing a left-footed bender to the far post. Weaver was sprung behind the defensive back line thanks once again to Collins as the senior took control of the midfield before slotting a through ball into space for Weaver to run on. The goal would be the last touch of the day for Weaver as the senior would be subbed out to watch her teammates put the finishing touches on another big win in the Pac-12 standings. On the day, all six Cougar seniors would see action as WSU played 20 players in the contest for the second-consecutive contest.
Stat of the Match
Morgan Weaver tied the record for goals in a game for the Cougars becoming just the second player in program history to notch four goals. She tied hall-of-famer Kim Lynass'Â 27-year old record from Sept. 13, 1992 against Gonzaga.
