THE STARTING FIVE
-> Washington State is off to a fast start in year two under head coach Kamie Ethridge, as the Cougs sit at 3-0 heading into Sunday's contest against CSUN. WSU will be seeking just its fifth-ever 4-0 start on Sunday. The 1986-87, 1998-99 and 2015-16 teams each began the year at 5-0, while the 1978-79 squad opened that season with a school record 10-straight wins.
-> The offense has played a key role in the Cougars 3-0 start to open 2019-20. Entering the weekend, Washington State ranks 14th in the NCAA in field goal percentage with a 49.5% success rate. WSU has shot over 53% from the floor in two of their three victories this season.
-> Redshirt senior Borislava Hristova is currently pacing the Pac-12 in scoring, as the forward is tied with Oregon's Ruthy Hebard at 23.7 points per game. That average is also the sixth-best in NCAA Division I. Hristova has posted three-straight games with at least 23 points, and is coming off a season-best 25-point performance in Wednesday's 80-68 win at Boise State.
-> Washington State has been hitting the defensive glass hard so far this season. WSU is averaging 33.0 defensive rebounds per game, which is the 17th-best average for defensive caroms in NCAA Division I. As a team, the Cougs are pulling down 44 boards per contest, which is the 66th-highest average in the country.
-> Sunday's matchup will mark the fifth all-time meeting between Washington State and CSUN. The Cougs lead the all-time series 3-1, however the Matadors captured the victory in their last matchup, taking a 65-52 decision in Northridge, California back on November 23, 2018. The Cougars are 2-0 against CSUN inside Beasley, but have not hosted the Matadors since capturing a 68-59 win back on December 4, 2013.
LAST TIME OUT
Washington State got a double-double from redshirt senior Borislava Hristova and a 17-point performance from redshirt junior Jovana Subasic to lift the Cougars to an 80-68 win at Boise State on Wednesday. Hristova's 25-point, 10-rebound effort gave the Bulgaria native her sixth career double-double, while Subasic's 17 points set a new career high for the 6-4 post player.
SCOUTING THE MATADORS
CSUN enters Sunday's match at 1-4 on the year, but they are coming off a 73-64 win at home over Portland. Washington State will be the third Power Five team the Matadors will face in 2019-20, as they've previously hosted USC and Virginia.
As a team, CSUN comes into Beasley looking to improve on their 58.0 points per game average. Thursday's win over Portland marked the first time this season the Matadors have scored over 61 points in a contest this season, as the team is hitting 32.4% of their shots from the floor so far on the year. Defensively, CSUN is allowing 69.9 points per game to its opposition, while opponents are posting a 41.2% success rate from the floor.
A trio of double-digit scorers lead the way for CSUN, paced by senior De'Jionae Calloway's 14.2 points per game. The Texas State transfer is nearly averaging a double-double, as she leads the Matadors in rebounding at 9.2 caroms per contest. The 6-0 forward has already collected two double-doubles this season, as she is coming off a 27-point, 10-rebound performance against Portland.
#BobiBuckets CHASING HISTORY
Senior Borislava Hristova has gotten her 2019-20 season off to a fantastic start, as the 2020 Cheryl Miller Award watch list recipient leads the Pac-12 in scoring at 23.7 points per contest. #BobiBuckets has opened the season with three-straight performances of 23-or-more points, bringing her career point total to 1,770. She needs just 197 points to break Jeanne Eggart's (1977-82) program record of 1,967 points.
LENDING A HAND
Scoring isn't the only thing senor Chanelle Molina brings to the table, as she recently moved into 10th-place on the WSU all-time assists list with 313, surpassing Penny Bowden's (1986-88) career mark of 307 helpers. She is 135 assists away from Darla Williamson's Washington State record of 448.
SHE'S ALSO CHASING 1,000
Senior Chanelle Molina is closing in on becoming the 20th player in program history to score 1,000 points in her career. The guard, who was Washington State's first five-star recruit in women's basketball, needs only 36 points to eclipse the mark. Currently, she is second on the team in scoring with 12.7 points per game.
