KAILUNA KONA, Hawaii – Washington State sophomore Darcy Habgood shot a 2-under 73 and finished tied for seventh following the first round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview. The Cougars' fired a first-round score of 303 (+11) and currently sit 11th in the 12-team field at the Nanea Golf Club.
After a tough start filled with three bogies within her first four holes, Habgood caught fire on the back nine, sinking four of her six birdies there. Habgood's 2-under 71 leads the Cougars and is only three strokes off the lead.
Four strokes behind Habgood is senior Marie Lund-Hansen, who posted a two-over-par 75. Lund-Hansen started her day by birding her first hole, then added one more throughout the round to put her in a tie for 31st place. Junior Emily Baumgart started strong in her first nine holes, sinking three birdies before an up and down end to her round. Baumgart carded a five-over-par 78, and is tied for 47th. One stroke behind is freshman Jiye Ham who carded a 79 (+6) and is tied for 51st. Sophomore Amy Chu tallied an 81 (+8) and is tied for 55th place.
Arizona leads the tournament with a score of 282 (-10), three strokes ahead of UCLA. Individually, Therese Warner from Arizona and Amy Matsuoka from Oregon are tied for first after they both tallied a five-under-par 68, one stroke ahead of UCLA's Emma Spitz.
The second round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview will be a shotgun start Tuesday, with the Cougars teeing off at 9:30 a.m. PT.
